Are they real or robots?
We've all been there. We see the numbers of followers increasing on our social media pages and we start to get excited thinking we must really be doing a great job of connecting with others.
Dollar signs begin dancing in our minds.
Not one website visitor from our social media posts.
In this new age of fake followers and bots, how is one supposed to know who's real and who doesn't have a heartbeat?
Do An Audit Of Your Instagram Followers
From the top of your Instagram profile page, click your followers.
Scroll through them and take into account the following:
1. Who is following you? Are they real or robots? Click on their account. What do you see? Images and text that feels like a real person or a business? Or do you see an account with big follower numbers but who is not following anyone else? Are the posts full of ads or maybe it's just one post. From that account you can block, report spam and unfollow to get them out of your instagram follower account and statistic reporting!
2. Are they your ideal clients or people who are connected with your ideal types of clients? Taking it even further than recognizing robots is seeing if they are your ideal types of clients or are connected with your ideal types of clients. For example, if you have a cruelty free product, a hunter that posts daily pictures of dead animals he has killed probably is not your ideal customer or is interested in what you offer and vice versa.
3. Are they in the right location? If you are a brick and mortar that doesn't offer online products or services, you'll want a large majority of local followers. But don't discard the long distance followers as they may have friends and family who live near you or other things they can offer your business.
Now that you've done your audit, what have you found? If the majority of your followers are fake or not in the same ballpark as your ideal types of clients... don't despair. Read on -
How To Get High Quality Prospective Clients Following You On Social Media
The below methods and suggestions are organic, meaning, you're not paying for advertising. Instead, you or your social media person is hyper focused on ONE THING: Creating Connection with Your Instagram Followers. You do this by:
Post in the tone and vibe that you and your business embodies. Don't be a robot. People want to do business with people.
Post answers to questions that you get regularly from current clients.
Be a resource to your followers. Point them in the right direction. Tell them where to go, what to read, who to ask for and what to do. Share your wisdom.
Share the fun side of your business. What's going on in the business that would make people smile, laugh, and appreciate? Spread the good vibes.
You got this. Organic posting can seem like a lot of work. But that's why we suggest having one point person (or more) that handles your social media. Don't discount the power of social media and the influence it has on your bottom line by not giving it 100%. It will be a game changer for your business with proper and professional attention. Remember, a lot you can do on your own, like what is listed above. If you currently have a limited budget or resources, check out our affordable social media marketing monthly packages here.
